Wie Niteblind schon gesagt hat, simuliert Magneto die Sättigung eines Magnetbandes. Dadurch entsteht eine harmonische, warme Kompression im Signal, die ,gediegen eingesetzt, viel Wärme und Druck bringt. Als einzigen Summenkompressor kann man das Teil beim Mastering nicht einsetzen, aber für den Effekt ist es nicht schlecht. Wenn du Cubase hast solltest du Magneto mal ausprobieren. Uli Eisner schreibt in seinem Buch auch n Kapitel über Bandsättigung, da wird das sehr schön erklärt.
